Tonight I bring you another blogpost- something a bit different to reviews and swatches - the importance of high-quality brushes in your makeup collection and application.
Back when I was younger and just starting makeup, I used mostly drugstore/supermarket brushes and sponges because that's all I could afford in school! I obviously thought it looked fine (otherwise why would I wear it?!), BUT now I look back and see that the application wasn't the best, and I praise and am thankful for my high-quality brushes today!
I personally think it is very important to invest in good brushes (if you are into makeup), because the application and blendibility is extremely vital to look natural and flawless! Obviously if you cannot afford high-end good quality products, then that is fine! You probably just have to work a little harder to blend and it might take more time than using good-quality makeup brushes. In saying that though, drugstore and Priceline (in Australia) sell some good-quality makeup applicators like Real-Techniques or Revlon. Whilst they are more on the steep side for drugstore, they are cheaper than Mac, Stila or Sigma and are good dupes and alternatives. I think the most important brushes and sponges to have is the beauty-blender (the real brand, not the real-techniques or drug-store versions), a foundation stippling or flat top brush (xobeauty has a great one) and also a good countour and blush brush. I believe from experience that the beauty blender gives a really nice airbrushed and flawless finish for your base- especially if you have blemishes, pigmentation/redness or just want an even skin tone. If you prefer to apply your foundation with a brush, then it is best to buy a high-quality one, otherwise it doesn't blend properly, it looks patchy and you really have to try hard to stipple the base all in without streakiness and without the brush sucking in all of the product (instead of the higher-end brushes allowing to blend and the product sits more on top of the brush so to speak, and it doesn't seep into the hairs). I also think that if you LOVE to contour and wear blush, then it is definitely worth it to invest. The angled brushes blend softly on your cheeks, and the Nars Ita Brush is fantastic as it has harsh hairs, to give a really strong contour - but in the end, it is personal preference on how you like to apply your makeup and how much money you want to spend on makeup. The reality is, most girls and women wear makeup these days, and to me, if you are using foundation most days, blush and contour, then you would probably rather look natural and buy some good quality brushes that you know will not go to waste.
Next, I would like to share my review of the Faboosh - My First Set by Faboosh. This set comes as a brush roll, with an angled brush, a fan brush, eye brushes, brow brushes and many more! The entire set literally has so many brushes, that you feel like you need no more for any type of makeup creation! I will admit, I was skeptical at first because the prices were very cheap for a a whole brush roll. But I took the chance and ordered it - and I'm glad I did! Every brush is so soft, you can feel the hairs and it just feels like such good quality, they are all Australian Made and the roll has an input for each brush, and is also very well made. The customer service was also beautiful. I was emailing the lady of Faboosh, and she was lovely; telling me all I needed to know about the set, and I personally think thats what makes any shopping experience 100 times better. I am very impressed and although I didn't want to use them at first because they are so white and pretty, I rarely use anything else now! If I ever need to order more brush sets, I will be checking out Faboosh first!!
