How to get the perfect (matte), flawless base
Friday, April 10, 2015Hi lovelies!
Just a quick disclaimer before I begin this post; this is how I get my perfect matte flawless finish. As I have mentioned before, everyone's skin is different so I really am in no position to give a 100% recommendation to EVERYONE! My skin is quite normal to combination (depends on the season), so I find that a matte base looks the best on me. I occasionally like to wear a dewy base though, so let me know if you want me to do a post on that!
ANYWAY...
The way to get a matte base I have found, is to use a great neutralizing primer that covers all spots on your face- under eye circles, redness, pigmentation etc. Personally, I think a green primer is always great, or a primer that has different tones in it to counteract colour on your face- like Stila One Step Correct. It has a lavender, peach and green tone to counteract all different colours on your face, to leave you with a blank canvas. I love Stila! It's a fantastic high quality brand, and isn't the most expensive products on the market - they're quite an average price range. Here in Australia, I get my Stila products from Mecca Maxima.
Once I apply a primer (like Stila One Step Correct, or Mirenesse Professional Makeup Base), I let it dry while I continue on with my eye makeup and eyebrows. Once it has dried, and isn't so wet, I choose a matte foundation. The Stila Stay All Day Foundation goes PERFECT with the corresponding primer. I apply my foundation with my finger (dotting it all over my face) and then I blend it out with a stippling/buffing brush, or a beauty blender (a beauty blender gives a more even skin tone, with no streaking effect - if you have that problem)- REMEMBERING to blend it all the way down my neck to make it look more natural.
On to concealer! The concealer that comes with the Stila Stay All Day foundation is fantastic to cover up spots on your face- as it has great coverage, and is the same colour as the foundation so it isn't noticeable. However, an under eye concealer that I have been loving, is the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer (an oldie but a goodie), or the Loreal Paris Infalible corrector/long wear concealer. This brightens up the under eye really nicely, and I love the wind up "lipstick' applicator. I also always set my under eye concealer with a powder- either the Australis Contour Kit (banana shade) or the Bare Minerals Well Rested powder.
Most people leave it at that step, and not apply a translucent or finishing powder to set. To be honest, if you apply a matte foundation, there really is no need to finish it off with a powder, unless you have a problem with oily skin, or oil clogging up throughout the day. Personally, I like to finish off all my bases with a finishing powder - matte or dewy. My favourite at the moment is the Mac Pressed Blotting Powder. This is quite translucent, however has a tiny bit of colour in it, just to add some coverage to the final look. I apply this all over my face with a light hand and a large powder brush, blending it down my neck also.
THAT IS HOW I GET MY FLAWLESS MATTE BASE. It is quite full coverage, but I personally LOVE full coverage foundation bases.
Hope you guys enjoy this post and it helps you out a little bit if you were stuck on how to apply a matte base. Even though this post is long, the steps are simple and you will always get a flawless look!!! Thank you for reading.
